An Artist’s Devotional Reflection

The Mirror of Self-worth

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14

While awaiting an interview with an editorial writer for The Rock Magazine at the Plymouth Community Arts Council, I noticed a magnificent sunburst mirror hanging beside my paintings.

Intrigued, I asked gallery director Mrs. Lisa Howard about it. She had discovered it at an estate sale, priced at just fifteen dollars. At her husband’s suggestion, she verified the price before purchasing it.

Captivated by its beauty, I offered her one hundred dollars, then two hundred, even three hundred. She graciously refused.

That exchange stirred a thought: How often do we overlook the treasures already in our possession?

As a painter, I know that a masterpiece’s worth is not determined by its price tag. What one person overlooks, another may consider priceless.

Yet the mirror offered a deeper lesson. It reflects our outward appearance but cannot reveal the divine image within us.

God, the Master Artist, sees beyond our imperfections and the world’s appraisal. Our true worth rests not in what we possess or achieve, but in whose image we bear.

The mirror’s radiant design reminded me that we are created not merely to admire our reflection, but to reflect God’s light into the world.

Perhaps life’s greatest discovery is learning to recognize the extraordinary in what we already have—and who we already are.

A Prayer:

Heavenly Father, open my eyes to what I overlook. Help me recognize my worth through Your eyes and reflect Your light wherever I go. Amen.

Today’s Reflection: Are you seeing yourself through the world’s appraisal or through the eyes of your Creator?

The mirror reveals our reflection. Faith reveals whose image we bear.
