Comparison robs us. Celebration enriches us.

Written by Timothy Orikri on July 25, 2026

I have often heard people speak of social media as though it were an enemy. They say it breeds envy, steals joy, and leaves them feeling small as they watch the highlight reels of other people’s lives. I understand why some feel that way, but my heart has never learned that language.

Perhaps it is because of how I was raised.

When I see someone succeeding, I do not become jealous, I become inspired.

When I see an artist receiving recognition, a family celebrating a milestone, an entrepreneur opening new doors, or someone simply smiling because life has offered them a beautiful moment, my first thought is never, “Why them?” It is, “Wonderful. It is their season.”

And seasons come to us all.

Another person’s harvest does not diminish the promise of my own. Their success is not evidence of my failure. Their light does not make mine any less capable of shining. In truth, every life that flourishes reminds us of what is possible.

Social media, to me, has become a gallery of possibility rather than a theater of comparison. It allows me to witness courage, creativity, perseverance, kindness, innovation, and beauty unfolding in thousands of different ways. Every achievement I see whispers, “Keep going. Dreams are still being born every day.”

If scrolling through someone else’s victories leaves us feeling empty, perhaps the problem is not the platform but the perspective.

Comparison robs us. Celebration enriches us. Envy narrows the heart. Gratitude expands it.

The applause we give to others never silences the applause waiting for us.

We were never created to compete with every person we meet. We were created to become the fullest expression of who God designed each of us to be. There is no competition in authenticity. There is only purpose unfolding at its appointed time.

So I choose to celebrate loudly. I choose to cheer for strangers, friends, fellow artists, entrepreneurs, families, and dreamers alike. Their victories remind me that hope is still alive. Their joy adds to the beauty of the world, and I would rather become part of that joy than stand outside of it nursing resentment.

The world has enough critics. It needs more encouragers.

May we become people who applaud generously, rejoice sincerely, and celebrate without reservation. May we learn from excellence instead of fearing it. May another person’s breakthrough become our motivation rather than our misery.

Walk your own path with confidence. Trust your own timing. Keep planting, keep building, keep believing.

Your chapter is still being written.

Until then, let the success of others become fuel for your own journey—not because you wish to be them, but because their story reminds you that beautiful things are still possible.

There is enough room in God’s kingdom for every calling to flourish, every gift to blossom, and every dream to find its season.
