The Fireworks and the Still Small Voice

Written by Timothy Orikri on July 4, 2026

Tonight the heavens bloom with fire,
while I place one last brushstroke upon my canvas. The sky celebrates.
My heart reflects. My father would often say, “Let your words be as sweet as honey; if they cannot heal, let them wait.”
So tonight I celebrate with gratitude, yet speak with humility.

America is a beautiful story filled with courage and contradiction, welcome and wounds, freedom won and freedom still unfolding. I love this nation, but I love God’s Kingdom more.

For my flag may wave in the wind,
yet my heart bows only to Christ.

As rockets rise and quickly disappear,
I wonder what light will remain tomorrow. May we spend as much on kindness as we do on celebration.

May we build as passionately as we applaud.

May truth walk gently with love,
justice with mercy, freedom with responsibility, and patriotism with humility.

Happy 250th Birthday, America.

May our greatest fireworks not be those that light the sky, but those that illuminate the human heart.

And may our greatest boast forever be
not in the greatness of a nation,
but in the greatness of God.
